ABOUT

Dan Walters is a highly-trained and versatile musician based in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. His work encompasses songwriting; composition and arranging; performance; community workshops; and teaching. He has a PGCE (with a focus on secondary Music) from the University of Huddersfield and teaches whole class music, as well as one-to-one and small group instrumental lessons across Calderdale.

Since moving to the area for university, the Huddersfield music scene has offered a valuable platform for learning through meeting, and collaborating with, talented musicians and artists on many different projects. Dan has developed a reputation as a skilled and sensitive singer-songwriter and performer. He releases his own songs under the name ‘Here’s The Steeple’. His first album High Hopes, was released in 2019 and features ambitious arrangements, with contributions from a host of talented friends from the Huddersfield music scene, including members of Knuckle, Birds & Beasts, and Samh. The launch for High Hopes featured a 15-piece chamber orchestra and tracks from the album were received positively by BBC6 Music, Fresh On The Net, and Calder Valley Radio, as well as a number of local radio stations.

He is passionate about creating music of all kinds and is particularly drawn to the wide variety of colour afforded by orchestral instruments, and the richness of emotion in vocal music. His compositions have been performed by chamber orchestras and choirs.

Dan studied classical voice with Dr. Robin Harrison, and sings with the Leeds-based chamber choir North8.

Dan also loves working with groups in the community. He has created inclusive harmony-singing workshops based around traditional folk songs. He has sung with and directed choirs with wide varieties of style and experience.

"Dan always has ideas to bring alongside his high level of musicianship. He's a true collaborator, that can draw from a wide range of genres and styles!"
